A Message From Dickie Brennan & Co.


To our Valued Guests and Community,

We hope this message finds you as well as can be expected during these difficult days. We've been quiet for the last few weeks, but we haven't stopped working. Our weeks have been occupied with trying to figure out how to be helpful during this unprecedented time. How can we help our team members, how can we help our community and how can we all help each other be stronger on the other-side of this pandemic? We don't have all the answers, but we know that food provides more than just a full belly. It provides comfort, emotional nourishment and a sense of community. We all need this, but how do we do it in a safe manner?

Prior to COVID-19, we were quietly working on Dickie Brennan & Co.'s latest project - The Commissary. This project is different than all the others that led before it. It's a commercial kitchen in the Lower Garden District that was designed to serve multiple purposes - a central place to make the most delicious, consistent soups, stocks, desserts and more for our restaurants; a market to sell direct-to-guest house butchered Louisiana steaks, restaurant quality Gulf seafood and dishes like turtle soup and bread pudding by the quart and pan; and an eatery to get a cocktail and slice of crabmeat cheesecake.

But as they say, even "the best-laid plans of mice and men often go awry." The Commissary was set to open in April with the first phase of providing food to our restaurants, the next two phases were plans for late 2020. Our team asked ourselves "How can The Commissary help during this time?" Its nearly 6000 square foot commercial kitchen provides ample space for culinary staff to work safely while maintaining an appropriate social distance. Our first goal in this new, temporary world is to feed the community that feeds us. With donations from Jim Beam and Crystal Hot Sauce, we're happy to announce that this Friday will be our first "Extended Family Meal." We'll be preparing 500 meals to give away to our team members, our hospitality community and our musicians. The meals will be available for pick-up from The Commissary at 634 Orange Street, New Orleans. We're setting up a drive-through on St. Thomas street and ask that everyone stay in their cars, so that we can safely serve them. We hope to continue these meals for the foreseeable future.

Also, on the to-go front, The Commissary will be opening up next Thursday for a limited but delicious menu of to-go options including favorites from the Dickie Brennan & Co. family of restaurants. Steak, Pizza and Seafood Packages to cook at home will also be available. Look for more details on that program to follow.
